Revolutionaries
One of my favorite TV shows of all time is the Andy Griffith show. In one episode Opie and his friends were not wanting to learn history and Andy encouraged them to rebel. Their teacher, Ms. Crump, becomes very discouraged until Andy starts to talking to the boys about the rifle that fired the shot that was heard around the world. When the boys became enthused about history, they formed the “Mayberry Minute Men”. This was from the example of Paul Revere and the militia of that day that led to The Revolutionary War. When America had enough of the tyranny of England, they began to revolt. The oppression by the English finally pushed our forefathers to the breaking point.
Then came the Boston Tea party and soon the Red coats would be coming.
Sometimes there is only so much some one can take before having to stand up to the tyranny and if that means a revolution then that’s what it takes.
For our country, we had to come to a point where we couldn’t take the tyranny of England any longer.
I believe that spiritually we sometimes have to revolt. When the enemy has oppressed us to the point of breakdown, we need to take a stand and cause a spiritual revolution.
I believe in these last days the local church will be the greatest line of influence in the kingdom of God. More than the mega church, more than gigantic ministries, it will be you and me that make the greatest impact for the kingdom of God.
Acts 17 1-6
1 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews. 2 Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures, 3 explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ.” 4 And some of them were persuaded; and a great multitude of the devout Greeks, and not a few of the leading women, joined Paul and Silas.
5 But the Jews who were not persuaded, becoming envious, and took some of the evil men from the marketplace, and gathering a mob, set all the city in an uproar and attacked the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people. 6 But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, “These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.
These men were revolutionaries. There were accused of turning the world upside and I believe that God wants us to be revolutionaries and turn our world upside down.
It’s not rocket science. It’s very simple. If we will just live as Christ desires, and will cultivate the traits and values that He gives us in His word, we will be a revolutionary. Let it be said of us that “those who have turned the world upside down, have come…”
